CTB

I hadn't forgotten about this graffiti. I just hadn't seen it in a while. It is on the sidewalk between Oyster Bar and Pizza D's on Booker Street up from my house. I was cleaning up after trash day on Booker (i'm the Booker Street Custodian) and saw it.

It was 1995. Our gang was leaving Pizza D's and saw the new sidewalk so we all added our names. Chad went down to the end of the sidewalk and added this. I think I told him not to because it was so big I was afraid they would end up redoing it and erasing all of our names. They didn't and they are all still there today. When I saw it and took a picture, Chad's was the only one in the sun. I think that was on purpose. Today is his birthday.

Ben Dalton, Living Strong

This is my buddy, Ben. He is a brave young man. In early 2005, he was having pain in his back and when they checked it out they found tumors on his spine. He has already gone through chemo treatments in Little Rock but started new treatments at St. Jude in Memphis on Dec 14th and will go back on Jan 4th. He goes for chemo three days every 21 days.

Ben has always got a smile on his face and gives me a hug every time I see him. He is not scared yet he just turned 16 on November 18th. I believe that when something like this happens, God gives people strength. Ben is strong. He reminds me a lot of Chad. They are both more concerned about others than themselves. Keep Ben and his mom, Susan, in your prayers.

Kevin Kerby and The Big Cats

After the Rimrockers game it was off to Sticky Fingerz in the River Market where Kevin Kerby opened with songs from his new solo cd and then The Big Cats blew the roof off the place. I'm just telling you it was LOUD and I had in earplugs. Across the front is Jason White, Burt Taggart and Josh Bentley. On drums is Colin Brooks who once upon a time played with Ho-Hum. Jason just finished a long tour with Green Day. Burt runs Max Recordings here in Little Rock.

Jermain Taylor, Middleweight Champion of the World

Tonight, Little Rock's own was honored at halftime of the Arkansas Rimrockers game. He successfully defended his belts on December 3rd by beating Bernard Hopkins for the second time. They gave away Jermain Taylor bobbleheads to the first 1000 fans but I had a connection and got one earlier in the day (Thanks Heather!). It was a nice crowd but nothing compared to the parade after the first fight when it was almost 100 degrees yet thousands of people lined the streets and filled the Riverfront Amphitheater to see and hear Jermain. That was free and the game tonight cost you at least $10 so I wish they would have done a free event so everyone could have come.

Savannah

This is my beautiful goddaughter, Savannah Sky Pledger. She turned three in October. Her parents, Matt and Brandy, hosted a Christmas party with Matt's parents, Linda and Buddy, at their house in North Little Rock on Wednesday night. All of our friends and their kids plus wonderful snacks by Linda and Buddy made it a great night. Note - I was still in my soccer uniform from a game before the party.

Clear the Glass

UALR Trojans forward Rashad Jones-Jennings is the leading rebounder IN THE NATION. Last Tuesday night (12/13/05), I witnessed him single handedly pull down 30 at The Jack. My friend and photog, Guy Lyons, was with me and took some pics I hope to add soon. JJ is averaging 12.6 boards per game this season. During games he wears a black and white mouthpiece and looks really imposing. Trojans play tonight @ 7pm @ the Jack and don't return home until next year, January 9th, 2006, when they will crush in-state rival Arkansas State.

TV Alert

Coldplay will perform tonight on The Tonight Show. If you don't care for Jay Leno, flip it on around 11:25pm and you will catch it. My guess is they will perform "Talk" which they did on Conan last week. It was really good. FYI - Jack Black and Sinead O'Connor are on Dave tonight.

now open

let me try this thingy.
